This is Bird People’s and Feathered Coyote’s first release on cassette. For this occasion, we have dived deep into our arsenal of string instruments and effect pedals. We came out again with this one-hour meditation on the moon and her mysteries.
The tracks were recorded in various studios during the first two weeks of July 2012, under the Thundermoon. There are instrumental explorations like “The Lunar Ship Steers With The Tide” or “Thundermoon Raga”, but there are also more traditional songs like “Buck Moon”. What all the recordings have in common, is that everything happened really spontaneously. “Buck Moon” was written in approximately 10 minutes while Toni was working on one of his solo recordings. One thing I tried to do with these recordings was to fully embrace the circumstances and the environment the selections were recorded in. If there was static noise, we used it. We used the room sound of the different studios extensively, placing microphones relatively far away from the sound source to capture the room ambience. Some things were also recorded outside, so we could jam along to the birds at day and the crickets at night.
We tried to find the primordial pulse from which all music emanates.
We hope we have succeeded a little bit ...
